The Art in Action Program

Help us keep the arts alive at North Broadway! We welcome all parents (or any other adult family member) to join us as an Art in Action volunteer art docent for your child’s class. The Art in Action program gives students an opportunity to see great works of art which include paintings, drawings and sculptures that cover a wide variety of styles, mediums, artists, cultures and time periods.

An art background is not required! Art docents coordinate monthly art lessons with the teachers which range from 45 minutes to two hours depending on the grade level. They lead a discussion of the print, provide information about the artist, show art concepts, and encourage student participation in expressing their ideas about the print. The discussion is then followed with a simple, hands-on art activity.

Everything is provided! There are written resources for discussion and activities for you to follow. We provide art docent training, art print information, project ideas including materials and supplies, plus support from other art docents and the teacher. Books, posters, music, videos and other art resources are also available at the school. All you need to bring is your enthusiasm!

Our goal is to have the Art in Action program in every class. The success of the program lies with our parent volunteers. We hope you will be able to join us to provide this invaluable experience to the students!
