Today Sgt. Toran Gaal, United States Marine Corps, visited North Broadway and spoke with our students. Sgt. Gaal has a great story of triumph and overcoming seemingly impossible odds. He is a double amputee and one of the few who have successfully transitioned to leg prosthetics with full leg and hip amputation. He was on his third deployment in June 2011 when he stepped on an IED that took both of his legs and caused severe head trauma. He beat the odds and has become a competition surfer, marathoner, and cross fit medalist. (4 marathons in 4 weeks = 104.8 miles!!!) His motto is "No Excuses!" He is clearly an inspiration to all of us at North Broadway and the community we serve. Thank you to all who have served in our military! We are so fortunate, day in and day out, because of your service.
